Travel, electricity consumption, office waste, waster consumption and discharge, paper consumption, food waste and ink usage all have an impact on our environment.
That’s why as a company we at MPAD are working hard to actively reduce our impact and help create a greener, cleaner and more sustainable Cornwall and planet.
In order to achieve this we have set annual targets for the reduction of our business and travel to work mileage, office waste and electricity consumption.
We are proud of the environmental and sustainable work we do and have been recognised for it at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards in 2008 and 2009.
Office manager, Caroline Williams, is currently completing our Environmental Management System (EMS) as we aim to achieve ISO14001 by the end of 2010.
Business and travel-to-work miles -
Since the moving office to Truro in July 2008 MPAD has saved a total of 11099.9 travel-to-work miles and 5848.95 business miles equating a cost saving of £2302.78
In 2008/09 we recycled 91% of our office waste. Our target was 50%
In 2009/10 we recycled 89% of our office waste. Our target was 50%
In 2010/11 we are recycling 97% of our office waste. Our target is 70%
We reduced electricity consumption by 29% from April 2009 to March 2010
95% of clients, suppliers and associates’ journeys to MPAD HQ in 2009 were either completed using shared transport, on foot or through clustered meetings (normally a shopping trip!)
Established in 1999 and based in Truro, MPAD works with clients across Cornwall, Devon and the South West.
MPAD, in line with working towards the ISO14001, is committed to the prevention of pollution; compliance with relevant legal legislation and other requirements and continual improvement.
Previously MPAD has sought to reduce its direct aspects and impacts from the business to the environment. Whilst this is still a high priority and the measures set in place in November 2007 are still maintained, managed and regularly reviewed, we now feel that as part of our continual improvement as a company, the fundamental aspects are to manage our indirect aspects and impacts.
We have introduced objectives and targets to monitor and manage the environmental impacts of and will continue to reduce our carbon footprint by:
• Measure, monitor and reduce the travel implications of client meetings in our offices
• Reduce the use of non-sustainable materials used in print jobs by providing clients with print quotes from suppliers with FSC/ISO14001/BS855 accreditations
• Measure, monitor and manage our electrical consumption
We will continue to:
• Measure, monitor and manage our waste to landfill through increasing recycling
• Measure, monitor and reduce the amount of car miles travelled both business and personal by flexible working and alternative transport/car sharing
In addition, we will act as an exemplar to other businesses and ensure that sustainability is made a key part of the advice and support we provide to our clients.
This policy is displayed publically in our offices and staff are made aware of their responsibilities through training and induction. As such, this policy is easily accessible to our customers, suppliers and the public.
At Low Carbon Futures we offer a variety of environmental business solutions. We provide a range of resource efficiency and energy management services.
