Ferry delayed by a swan on the slipway

Client PR, Fal River Cornwall / No Comments

Transport users have become accustomed to unusual excuses for delayed services.

‘Leaves on the line’ and ‘the wrong kind of snow’ have been amongst the reasons given to bemused travellers.

But people using the King Harry Ferry at Feock on Sunday (January, 20) were held up for briefly when a swan paddling in the water on the slipway prevented the moving road bridge from landing.

King Harry Ferry’s Tommy Tonkins said: “The Fal River is an area of outstanding natural beauty and we’re lucky to share our daily life working in such a location.

“We get to see amazing scenery and fantastic wildlife everyday, but it’s just on this occasion the swan caused a slight delay to our passengers travelling from the Roseland across towards Falmouth and Truro.

“Luckily it was a Sunday so only a handful of people were affected and there were no boos or hisses from either the passengers or the swan!”

The ferry, which has been voted in the top 10 best ferry journeys in the world, runs a daily service from Philleigh to Feock.
